WB Hopes
for Extraordinary Summer with 'No Ordinary Girl' LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Another young American is making her way to The WB next summer. As part of its summer 2002 original programming plan, the Frog net has greenlit seven episodes "No Ordinary Girl," a one-hour dramedy from "The Wonder Years" alumni writer Bob Brush and director Michael Dinner, reports Variety. Originally developed as a half-hour, "Girl" is seeking a chief sponsor for the series, a la last year's summer soap "Young Americans," which was financed by Coca-Cola. The strategy is an alternative to selling commercial spots the traditional way, since summer ad fees are usually extremely low. "It speaks to the fact that there are companies that want to have more original programming in the summer that targets the teen audience," WB Entertainment President Jordan Levin says. In addition, the WB will hold back four original episodes of "Felicity" to air next summer, most likely in tandem with "Girl." The episodes will take place after the title character graduates from college in an episode slated for May. "No Ordinary Girl" revolves around 16-year-old Paige (Amber Tamblyn), her parents (Mark Harmon and Susan Gibney) and her siblings. And, perhaps, their love of Coke?
